Recreational Pilot Permit
Holders of a Pilot Permit – Ultra-light Aeroplane may credit any hours flown in a three axis ultra-light toward their flight time requirements. A Recreational Pilot Permit can be converted to a Private Pilot Permit through the fulfillment of certain additional requirements.
Privileges The holder of a Recreational Pilot Permit may, during daylight, fly an aircraft designed for a maximum of four seats, but with only one passenger on board. The aircraft may be on wheels, floats or skis. The permit holder may fly in Canada only, on an aircraft or ultra-light registered in Canada.
Minimum age: 16 years old
Medical requirements: Class III or IV Transport Canada’s minimal requirements (Ground school recommended but not required) Total of 25 hours of flight time, including: 15 hours of flight time with an instructor 5 hours of solo flight time Examinations: Written test completed at a Transport Canada facility Practical flight test with a Transport Canada-approved inspector
